Ruins of Pompeii | Naples, Italy |

Ruins upon ruins along the distance, Pompeii is one of the most significant remains of Roman civilization and provides a glimpse of life in the past.

On August 24, 79AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted, spewing molten ash, pumice and sulfuric gas miles into the atmosphere. Falling debris filled the Streets until nothing remained to be seen of the once thriving communities. Until excavation began in 1748, the cities remained buried and undiscovered for almost 1700 years.

Did you know?
There’s a popular song by Bastille called “Pompeii” that alludes to this city and the tragedy that happened.
