Travelling Foodie Sails with South Bay Sailing at Redondo Beach California

Starting the New Year with doing something new, my siblings and I literally had our first ride on a sail boat with South Bay Sailing at Redondo Beach right on New Year’s Day! My brother had brought a Groupon for an hour of sailing for up to six people with South Bay Sailing.

We were actually supposed to go the Friday before New Year but the weather was rainy and cloudy so South Bay Sailing’s staff called and recommended we postpone to another day, which we found was very good service. Since we didn’t have much days left, we decided to go during New Year. We booked a morning slot so that we have the rest of the day ahead of us.

When we arrived, the helmsman was already there. He quickly went thru the paperwork with my brother, and away we go! He explains the different parts of the boat and where it’s best for us to sit. The most important part for safety is learning that the boom can swing on big waves so it’s something people need to be cautious about. Luckily, the morning was really nice and sunny with clear skies!

The interesting parts for me during the sail were the following:
– Seeing a buoy of sealions
– Seeing people do water activities like paddling boats, kayaking, etc
– Seeing a glimpse of a dolphin
– Something techie: there was bluetooth speakers in the sail boat so we were able to connect to it using my sister’s cellphone and listen to some music as we sailed

Overall, sailing with South Bay Sailing was a fun start of the New Year! It was quite relaxing and enjoyable being in the sail boat – I would say even meditative.

Have you sailed with South Bay Sailing? How was your experience?
