Kas, Turkey Travel Guide: Turkish Riviera Hidden Gem (With Video)

Planning a vacation to the charming coastal town of Kas, Turkey? In this travel guide (with video), we feature tips, things to know, best things to do, where to eat & stay in Kas.

Nestled in the Antalya Province on the stunning Turquoise Coast, Kas definitely surprised me as a destination. As part of my 2-week Turkish coast road trip, I visited Kaş after a 3-hour drive from Antalya.

When you hear about Turkish coastal destinations, you mostly hear about Antalya, Bodrum, Marmaris and Izmir. Kas wasn’t even on my initial itinerary for Turkey until I chatted with a friend about my trip and she told me it’s a town I’d love.

And my friend was right. I loved Kas!

I’ll be sharing everything I did and what I learned in Kas, Turkey here in this guide with a travel video for you to get immersed in its beauty.

Travel Video – Why I Love Kas, Turkey

In this travel vlog, travel with me as I spent 2 days in Kas:

  • explored the historic Old Town, marina, an ancient theater, a turquoise beach, a sunset viewpoint
  • enjoyed restaurants (for both seafood and Turkish food)
  • interacted with locals
  • immersed with the nightlife and local culture
  • Plus, I got to try and learn how to slice doner through a rotating spit!

I really loved my vacation in Kas. You get nature, history and architecture. Great food and drinks. Very friendly locals. And it felt very safe to wander on your own, even at night.

This small coastal town in has retained all of its charm and still feels like being in a local town instead of a tourist town, which a lot of popular resort cities or tourist hot spots typically end up becoming.

Watch my Kas travel video above. This is the 2nd episode of my Turkish coast road trip series.

Best Time to Visit Kas

As a coastal destination, Kas is best experienced when the weather is sunny and warm. Summer is peak season, boasting sunny days and little-to-no rainfall.

Ideal visit times are May and September, just skirting the busy summer vacation period. However, April and October can be unpredictable.

Coastal town means fresh seafood year round

I visited Kas in November-December 2023, which is off-season and kind of their winter season. It was definitely less busy with not a lot of tourists. Some activities and tours are not available including the trick show they typically do when you order dondurma (Turkish ice cream).

Despite being winter, the weather during my visit was surprisingly pleasant, even beach-worthy, though I did experience some heavy rain. So, if you’re after a less crowded, more laid-back Kas vacation, winter might just be your season.

Attractions & Things To Do

With so much nature, history and architecture, there’s so many things to do and places to visit in Kas.

Antiphellos Theater

A quick 5-10 minute walk from Old Town, the Antiphellos Theater, a small yet well-preserved Hellenistic site that once seated 4,000 spectators.

Travelling Foodie Tip: Be sure to climb the top for some breathtaking views of Kas! It’s a great place to visit during sunset.

Boat Tours

There are quite a bit of boat tours in Kas, some even taking you to Greece. However, during my visit, they were all closed for the season so summer would be the best time to do them.

İnceboğaz Çınar Beach

Kas is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey. From the Antiphellos Theater, I walked to the İnceboğaz Çınar Beach, which sits on the thinnest part of the Kas Peninsula.

While you’re walking, you’ll find beautiful views of the Kas marina on the right. It’s the perspective from the bottom and across the overlook viewpoint I’ll be sharing below.

Kas Marina

İnceboğaz Çınar Beach actually has two sides: One on the right, where you’ll find the main entrance, but across the street is another side with less views but also less people.

Old Town

While in Kas, you will definitely want to explore Old Town. There is so much charm in this historic square with its maze of cobblestone streets filled with boutiques, cafes, souvenir shops, local arts and crafts shop and al fresco dining spots.

I spent most of my time in Old Town because this is where I stayed and dined. I enjoyed randomly wandering the streets, each turn there’s something new to see.

You can also enjoy the marina here, and that’s where I had my last dinner to enjoy with the sunset.

Shot Bars

I was surprised to find out that shot bars are a thing in Kas. These are drive-through windows you’ll find on the streets of Old Town.

You can simply walk to the window, order and take your shot, then continue on your way or you can hang with other drinkers by the window.

I’ve done pub and bar crawls before. I wonder if people do shot bar crawls in Kas. I feel like it would be a popular thing during the summer or at night.

Being on the Mediterranean coast means beautiful views so I made sure to visit a viewpoint during sunset. This spot gives you the highest vantage point in Kas for awesome panoramic views.

It’s also one of the best spots to fly your drone in Kas. I brought my drone to this spot but, when I arrived, I saw a father and son already having a nice bonding moment flying their drone so I didn’t take mine out anymore.

Restaurants, Places To Eat & Drink

There are plenty of places to enjoy food & drinks in Kas. Aside from traditional Turkish restaurants, being a seaside town means plenty of seafood restaurants and restaurants with a view.

Cafe Corner Restaurant

Located in the heart of Old Town square, Cafe Corner Restaurant is a nice family-owned restaurant with a diverse menu featuring seafood, Mediterranean, European, and Turkish cuisines.

Expect delicious homemade food, reasonable prices and very friendly owners. Highly recommend their Seafood Platter (450TL) for one which comes with grilled fish fillet, grilled shrimp skewer, fried calamari, Mediterranean salad and grilled potato.

This spot is the only one I found that has a Seafood Platter for one. Other places I saw were for at least two people and much more expensive.

Frida Pub

Frida Pub is a cozy pub in Old Town that’s perfect for hanging out, enjoying pub food with a wide selection of beers (and other drinks). Prices are very reasonably and portions are big and great for sharing.

I enjoyed the Frida Mix Basket (300TL) which has chicken pane, sausage, spring rolls, onion rings, french fries. It is honestly good to share for 2-4 people over beer.

Kervan Pide ve Döner Salonu

Kervan pide ve döner salonu is a local hotspot specializing in doner and pide. Right along the main street, this Turkish restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating.

The menu is in Turkish but don’t let that intimidate you as it’s fairly straight forward: choose either pide or doner.

For doner, pick either chicken or beef, and choose the grams of meat. For pide, choose which flavour/topping.

I loved the Meat Doner for 115-120 grams of meat (145TL). It was very tender and juicy, and the beef had nice marbling. I liked that they also grilled the wrap so it’s hot and crispy.

Highly recommend doing at least 115-120 grams of meat so that you get a good meat-to-wrap ratio. Anything less and you might not appreciate and taste the meat as much anymore.

The staff was so friendly and asked if I wanted to try slicing doner on the rotating spit. It’s such a unique experience and it’s something I’ve never done before.

Plus, it makes for a great photo and video opportunity. If you watch my video, I clearly had much to learn from the doner masters. I didn’t know how to slice and, after they taught me, my slices were pretty thick.

Marina Restaurant Cafe

One of the best ways to enjoy Old Town is to dine with a view of the marina. Marina Restaurant Cafe is a great restaurant by the marina. As a cafe, you can also enjoy coffee-based drinks and they’re also open for breakfast.

Though they have both indoor and outdoor dining, I highly recommend outdoor dining to enjoy the view. What’s great is the patio is covered so, even if it rains like during my dinner there, it won’t be an issue.

They have an international menu, but keep an eye out for good deals posted outside the restaurant. I had the Grilled Fish Meal deal (270TL) which came with perfectly cooked grilled seabream, highly addicting chips, and salad.

NUDO Waffle Dondurma

Located at a public municipal area with tables and chairs, NUDO K.Maras Dövme (or NUDO Waffle Dondurma in Google) is a popular spot for Turkish ice cream, dondurma, for both locals and tourists.

I enjoyed 2 scoops of Dondurma Ice Cream on a cone (60TL): walnut (popular flavour) and honey & almond. If you’ve never had Turkish ice cream before, I highly recommend trying as it really tastes different from regular ice cream or gelato.

Since I visited in off-season, I was sad to find out they don’t do the trick show that I’ve seen online when people order dondurma.

Old House Cafe & Bar

Old House Cafe & Bar is a local hotspot for drinks especially at night. In my entire time in Kas, this spot always had a lot of people.

When I went at night, I only saw drinks menu so I’m not really sure if they serve food at night. But I went here for their shot bar, aptly named Old House Shot Bar, which is located on the intersecting side of the bar.

SİMİTÇİM is an awesome little Turkish bakery that I’m so glad I visited. It’s mostly for takeout but there are a few small tables available.

It’s a very local spot and the staff doesn’t speak English that much so come prepared. At SİMİTÇİM, you can try not only traditional Turkish pastries like simit and borek, but also newer specialties like İzmir Bomb Kurabiye (İzmir bombası).

Portions and prices are really good. I went here for breakfast and loved the Meat Borek (80TL) and Turkish Coffee (40TL). The borek was so flakey outside and moist inside with flavourful meat.

Where To Stay in Kas

Dantel Butik Ev Pansiyon

Located in Old Town, Dantel Butik Ev Pansiyon is a bed and breakfast conveniently just a 5-minute walk from Kas Harbour. It’s literally like living in someone’s cozy home.
