Looking for a culinary getaway in Ontario? Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa is one of the best hotels in Canada to spend a staycation or weekend.
Nestled in Cambridge, Ontario, Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa is a luxurious retreat that seamlessly blends historic charm with modern elegance.
Only an hour and a half drive away from Toronto and you’re transported to Ontario’s only Relais & Chateaux property within the Carolinian Forest where you’ll get to experience not only exceptional hospitality but also culinary.
Here’s what it’s like to spend a culinary staycation at Langdon Hall for that delicious Ontario getaway. There’s also a video in this post that brings you along on the full experience.

Langdon Hall Restaurant
The first time I visited Langdon Hall was in 2010 when its restaurant ranked #77 in the World’s 100 Best Restaurants so I was so excited to be back.
Langdon Hall restaurant has achieved many more accolades since my first visit, including:
- Recommended in Toronto & Region Michelin Guide 2024 and 2025
- No. 5 in Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants and Best Destination Restaurant in 2024
- Forbes 4 Star Restaurant Award
- OpenTable’s 100 Best Restaurants in Canada 2019
- OAD’s Top 100 Restaurants in North America 2024

Dining Room
The Dining Room at Langdon Hall offers tasting menus and à la carte options (Fresh Country Breakfast, lunch, mid-day and dinner).
The à la carte menu provides a more flexible dining experience, with a range of options to suit different tastes and budgets.

The tasting menu is a journey through seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, meticulously crafted by Executive Chef Jason Bangerter and the culinary team. Prices as of Sep 2025, excluding taxes and gratuities:
- Discovery Tasting Menu – highlights from the à la carte menu. Lunch Discovery for $95 and Dinner Discovery for $215.
- The Grand Tasting Menu – curated selection of dishes you won’t find in the à la carte menu for $295.
- Two wine pairing options are available: The Globetrotter ($160) or World Classics at ($300), both can be decided at dinner

The Grand Tasting Menu
In honour of his 10th anniversary at Langdon Hall, The Grand Tasting Menu is Executive Chef Jason Bangerter’s most elevated and exciting menu.
According to Chef Bangerter, The Grand Tasting Menu is “personal and special to me, sharing emotions and stories about my journey as a chef and my connection to the dishes, ingredients and the terroir.”

In this culinary journey, you’ll find some of Chef Bangerter’s favourite dishes from throughout his career and unique inventive courses using local gems and luxurious ingredients, giving a taste from Langdon Hall’s very garden to Canada’s east and west coast to other parts of the world.
What’s also special about The Grand Tasting Menu aside from the dishes not being available on the Discovery Tasting Menu and à la carte menus is that there’s limited seating (16 guests) per night, unique cutlery and tableware for the menu, and you get to dine at the Terrace.
A great example of all this is the Taste The Ocean course where you’ll get Uni from BC, Scallop from Hokkaido, Japan, and King Crab from Nova Scotia plus the herbs on the dish are all from the garden, all served on a unique bowl shaped like a sea urchin shell.

What’s on The Grand Tasting Menu and Globe Trotter Wine Pairing
The Grand Tasting Menu changes frequently by what’s available locally and with seasons, and the changing wine pairings are thoughtfully curated to complement and enhance the tasting menu.
I did The Grand Tasting Menu with the Globetrotter wine pairing on September 6, 2024, and here’s what you can expect on the menu.

1) Brassica Fritter – with lemon grass oil aioli and broccoli flowers
2) Duck Rillettes on radish – with Orchard apple jam and chervil

Juniper from Carolinian Forest torched on your table so the scent permeates while you eat. Probably the best trout I’ve ever had!

1) GARDEN BERRIES – vanilla parfait glacé, fresh blackberry consommé, verbena oil
2) Wine Pairing: 2016 Alto Adige, Moscato Rosa, Franz Haas

1) CLIMBING PRAIRIE ROSE – soft whey cake, raspberry
2) PETIT FOURS
The Grand Tasting Menu is a must! Impeccable menu, amazing wines and exceptional service.
This is the epitome of Langdon Hall cuisine!

I love that majority of the ingredients are grown on-site in the garden and farm, and the rest are from within 100 kilometers from Langdon Hall.

I recommend doing the Global Trotter wine pairing if possible, but their knowledgeable sommeliers are available should you prefer getting wines by the glass or bottle.
If you’re worried about too much drinking, you can share one wine pairing. As a solo diner, they were accommodating to do 1oz pours of the wine pairing for me and charged accordingly.

Chef Bangerter and team did an impeccable job. One of the best meals I’ve had not only in Ontario but in Canada with some courses heightened with scent (like torching the juniper leaves or spraying with rose water) reminding me of experiences I’ve had at 3 Michelin Star restaurants.
Truly a Michelin Star-worthy experience that I expect to be on the Toronto Michelin Guide should it finally expand to the rest of Ontario.
As of September 18, 2024, Michelin Guide has expanded to Toronto & Region, and Langdon Hall is Michelin Recommended alongside Restaurant Pearl Morissette and The Pine. And continues to be for 2025 as well.

Fresh Country Breakfast
Mornings at Langdon Hall are for the Fresh Country Breakfast at the Dining Room, where you can enjoy a delightful spread featuring fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
For $52, the menu includes your à la carte of choice, unlimited servings of beverages and food from the Country Table.

Beverages include juice, mimosa, freshly made fruit smoothie, coffee, tea, and espresso-based drinks like Americano, latte and cappuccino.
The Country Breakfast Table has an array of fresh homemade pastries, fruits and and food.

1) FARMHOUSE CHEESES
2) BREAKFAST CHARCUTERIE
3) SMOKED SALMON

Langdon Hall Hotel Rooms
Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa has 60 guest rooms and suites, offering a range of accommodations, each designed to provide comfort and luxury.
Cloister Rooms
I stayed overnight at the Upper King Cloister Room located on the top floor of the Cloister wing.
It is a nice spacious and elegant room with modern amenities including a Nespresso machine, shower steamers and bath bombs, Dyson Supersonic hair dryers and in-room safe.

I love that complimentary drinking water are provided as well, and a welcome surprise awaited my room.
Also, at night, I got back to my room with a chocolate on my bedside table.

Amenities & Complimentary Activities
Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa boasts a variety of amenities and complimentary activities to enhance your stay.
You can join a complimentary wine tasting experience hosted by their sommelier to explore a selection of fine wines.
Our session’s topic was “Weird Grape Varietals” where sommelier Esther Alethia showcased white, rose and red wines from Italy using grape varietals we probably have never heard of or tried, and she was right.

1) White Wine: Timorasso (Vigneti Repetto ‘Piccolo Dethona’)
2) Rose: Corvina and Rondinella (Le Fraghe ‘Rodon’ Bardolino Chiaretto)
3) Red: Nerello Mascalese (2022 Planeta Etna Rosso)
The property also features scenic trails through the Carolinian Forest and free bicycle rental, perfect for exploring the beautiful surroundings.

The outdoor pool & lounge is complimentary for guests, and you can add it to your spa package or purchase a day pass for additional relaxation.

If you like games and sports, there’s a Tennis Court and Croquet Lawn for outdoors and a Billiards Room in the main house.

Plus, the library offers a quiet retreat for those looking to unwind with a good book and also has several board games you can play.
I enjoyed a cozy Southern Ontario staycation but, if you’re looking for a Northern one, I highly recommend doing Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa, one of the best things to do in Timmins.
