Looking for the top local restaurants in Saskatoon? From hidden gem cafes to upscale dining and international street food, this is your definitive local’s guide to Saskatoon dining, straight from the locals and my own food tour notes.
When I travel, I love eating where the locals eat. My first time exploring Saskatoon food was in 2024, and I was completely blown away by the city’s diverse and thriving culinary scene.
For my second culinary project with Discover Saskatoon, I travelled from Toronto to Saskatoon and went #Saskatooning for food even deeper this time. To find the absolute best local places to eat in Saskatoon, I turned to the ultimate source of unfiltered opinions from locals: Reddit.

Top Local Restaurants in Saskatoon
I asked the r/saskatoon community where to eat in Saskatoon, and the recommendations flooded in. If you’re looking for local restaurants in Saskatoon, this food guide is for you! Plus, there’s a handy interactive travel map at the end with all the spots featured.
Here’s a short video recap below. Or you can also watch it on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
Local Asian Eats & Innovative Fusion
Saskatoon food features a surprisingly robust and highly authentic Asian culinary landscape, blending traditional techniques with bold fusion concepts.
No. 1 Noodle House: Authentic Chinese Cuisine
Also referred to as Number 1 Noodle House, this family-run establishment frequently tops the list of top local Saskatoon restaurants for anyone craving authentic regional Chinese cuisine.
Run by chef and owner Hank Ren alongside manager Cindy Tsang, the restaurant was born from a desire to introduce authentic Shanxi knife-cut noodles to the prairies.
Because it was difficult to find staff trained in this complex technique, they innovated by bringing in a high-tech robotic chef to expertly slice the dough.
I love the charming and hilarious juxtaposition: you walk into an old-school Chinese restaurant interior, but a modern robot rolls up to bring your dishes!
What the locals say: Reddit users rave about this spot, with one local claiming it has “some of the best authentic chinese food I’ve ever had outside of china” and highly recommending any of the handmade noodle dishes.
What I tried: I tried the Chinese pancake stuffed with pulled beef, which was slightly different from the traditional pancake I know. It’s more akin to what I know as Chinese burger, but it was quite delicious
I also tried the Shanxi hand-ripped noodle with minced pork, which is a great dry option with massive, wide, and perfectly chewy noodles.
Finally, the braised beef knife-cut noodle with soup was delicious. The noodles were perfectly textured, and the broth was incredibly flavourful and addicting.

SULU Restaurant: Asian Tapas and Sake Bar
Brought to life by Andy Yuen and Rachel Kong, the celebrated husband-and-wife team behind the popular Odd Couple restaurant, SULU focuses heavily on Asian tapas and fusion. Since I enjoyed Odd Couple on my first food trip in Saskatoon, I was excited to try SULU this time.
Taking over a prominent Downtown Saskatoon location that formerly housed Sticks & Stones, the restaurant officially opened its doors in February 2025.
The name cleverly serves a double purpose: it acts as a nod to the groundbreaking Asian Star Trek character, while also translating to “rebirth” or “dragon” in Chinese to signify the revival of the space.
Tucked into an intimate room illuminated by glowing red lanterns, it features an authentic Japanese grill and a fantastic bar with a strong dedication to sake.
What the locals say: The bao, skewers, sweet potato dumplings and Tom Yum Shrimp Sushi Roll were specifically recommended to me on Reddit with the Tom Yum Roll double-downed by locals I met during my trip.
What I tried: I ordered the sweet potato dumplings pan-fried with Thai red curry and chili oil solely because of Reddit, and it impressed me the most out of everything since it wasn’t a dish I would typically order: a total flavour explosion!
I also tried the charcoal-grilled skewers: both the tenderloin steak with house marinade and the pork with a lemongrass citrus glaze were incredibly tender, juicy and flavourful.
The Banh Mi Bao, packed with pork belly and pickled veggies inside a house-made bao bun, really tasted like banh mi. And I liked that it was much lighter and less carby than a standard Vietnamese baguette.
To round it out, I had the Tom Yum shrimp sushi rolls and the tuna handroll, paired perfectly with a premium sake flight that included Homare Premium Dry, Kawatsuru Sanuki Cloudy, and Fukucho Seaside.

Al’s Kitchen: Filipino Comfort Food
As someone who grew up in the Philippines, I didn’t expect and was excited to find a Filipino community in the city, which speaks volumes about Saskatoon’s cultural diversity.
Situated in the Massey Place neighborhood, Al’s Kitchen is a beloved family-owned establishment run by the husband and wife tandem of Al and Karrylle Felicio.
It operates as a mix traditional turo-turo style eatery and restaurant, plus serves as a lively, multi-purpose cultural hub that also houses a Filipino grocery store, a bubble tea shop, and features live music and Karaoke.
What the locals say: Locals point to this as a fantastic Filipino hidden gem for hearty, traditional Filipino food especially silog breakfasts and sweets.
What I tried: I dug into the Longsilog (sweet Filipino sausage) and Tosilog (perfectly charred sweet cured pork) served with garlic fried rice and a fried egg were fantastic.
As the drink and dessert, I tried both the Mangga Con Yelo and Mais Con Yelo. While the Mais (corn) version is a unique traditional treat, the Mangga (mango) version is incredibly refreshing if you aren’t used to eating corn in your dessert.

Loqui: Upscale Asian Fusion
Loqui, taking its name from the Latin word for “to speak, to talk,” offers a fine dining atmosphere that still manages to feel remarkably relaxed and approachable.
Built by a passionate father-and-son team, Melvin and Jackson, in the Riversdale neighborhood, the beautiful, plant-filled space features a large outdoor patio. The inventive menu features international inspiration from Jackson’s travels around the world.
What the locals say: A top recommendation for new spots on Reddit, described as “Upscale asian fusion” with top-tier dishes.
What I tried: I started with the Crispy Shrimp Bao featuring masa tempura and gochujang, followed by the Khao Soi, which is a must! Combining chicken breast, house Thai curry, and chili oil, having crispy rice on top of the Khao Soi provided a fantastic textural contrast.
I washed it all down with the LB Shaft, an inventive cocktail made with local Three Foragers honey and indigenous Saskatoon berries.

Global Flavors & Comfort Classics
You don’t have to leave the prairies to find incredible international comfort foods or top-tier burgers.
Konga Cafe: Authentic Caribbean Cuisine
If you are wondering what to eat for intense, home-cooked flavour, this is it. Operating in the quiet Caswell Hill neighbourhood, Konga Cafe brings a massive slice of the Caribbean to the Prairies.
The space boasts a small, homey, “hole-in-the-wall” vibe adorned with Jamaican and Caribbean decor. Plus, I love that they start you off with complimentary Johnny Cakes, which took me back to my first time having them in the US Virgin Islands.
What the locals say: Highly recommended on Reddit as having the most authentic island food in Saskatoon, with locals urging visitors to try the jerk chicken, Canajun pork, and the Sweetfire chicken if you love spice.
What I tried: For Jamaican food, my go-to orders if available tend to be the classics, Oxtail and Curry Goat, so I got the Curry Goat, featuring cubes of meat stewed in a mild yellow Jamaican curry that authentically falls right off the bone.
The Jamaican Jerk Chicken here is unique as it comes smothered in their signature sauce rather than a dry rub, and the Spicy Peanut Shrimp has a beautifully creamy sauce that pairs perfectly with roasted potatoes. Ended dinner with the key lime pie.

Bistro on B: French Bistro Comfort
Bistro on B is a unique French Bistro that incorporates a distinct BBQ twist into elevated comfort food so don’t make my mistake in thinking it was going to be like a traditional Texas BBQ joint.
Located in the trendy Riversdale neighborhood, the restaurant officially opened its doors in February 2024. It has a fascinating backstory: owner Cayle Anderson worked as a plumber for nine years before quitting to start a wildly popular backyard meal-prep business.
After scaling up to cook 900 meals a week, his mother purchased the building, allowing him to turn his passion into this permanent brick-and-mortar reality.
What the locals say: Loved by locals for their heavy, satisfying comfort dishes particularly “anything brisket related.”
What I tried: The Brisket Mac & Cheese features 16-hour smoked brisket over macaroni with a house-made cheese sauce. Absolute pure comfort in a bowl.

Deadly Dan’s Hot Sauce Grill: Smash Burgers and Wings
If you are searching for local restaurants in Saskatoon doing something completely different, Deadly Dan’s is an absolute triumph.
Located inside the bustling Gather Local Market in the River Landing area, they evolved since my first visit to the market from a simple artisanal hot sauce brand into a full-blown food stall incorporating their sauces into burgers and wings.
What the locals say: Highly praised on Reddit, with a local calling out the Animal Burger as the best burger in town and saying “their peanut butter & burning berry wings are out of this world.” Another local rated their Death Proof Burger a 100/100 and the Animal Burger a 99.99/100.
What I tried: I was not steered wrong! I grabbed the Animal Smash Burger, a double 1/4 lb fried burger with their Prairie Gold sweet mustard. It was a legitimately perfect smash burger with thin, charred, crispy edges, honestly beating out many spots I’ve tried in Toronto.
I also tried the Peanut Butter and Burning Berry Wings. It’s so uncommon to find peanut butter on wings, but paired with their indigenous Saskatoon berry hot sauce, it was an incredibly addicting flavor combination. Plus, their batter stays extra crispy even when smothered in sauce.

Saskatoon Cafes and Coffee Shops
If you’re looking for what to eat in the morning or just need a caffeine fix, you’ll love the Saskatoon coffee shops a latte.
Espresso Macchina: Pure Espresso Bar
This was one of the most intriguing recommendations for Saskatoon coffee shops. Operating in an industrial neighborhood, Espresso Macchina is an espresso bar located directly inside an espresso machine sales and equipment maintenance shop.
The owner, Randall, is incredibly knowledgeable on coffee and equipment. Perfect for coffee purists wanting a meticulous espresso extraction, they only serve espresso drinks (no drip coffee) using 100% organic, fair-trade Bean North coffee.
According to him, Espresso Macchina boasts the largest Torani syrup selection in Western Canada with over 100 flavors!
What the locals say: Fantastic espresso and owners for a quick chat.
What I tried: A straight espresso shot.

The Colombian Nutana: World-Class Coffee
Located in the vibrant Nutana neighborhood, The Colombian has achieved serious international acclaim, landing at #15 on The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops list for North America, Central America, and the Caribbeans region out of 4,600+ shops.
Loved for its unmatched hospitality and direct-trade sourcing, the founders actually source beans straight from their own family coffee farm in Colombia.
Featuring an industrial yet cozy vibe complete with table plugs and perhaps the friendliest cafe staff I’ve encountered, this local-to-Saskatoon cafe (as the only location outside of Alberta) is perfectly optimized for remote work that I can see myself cofficing in.
What the locals say: One Redditor notes that the “Vanilla Latte at the Colombian is my favourite coffee.”
What I tried: A perfect cup of Cortado.

Out of Order Coffee: Progressive Cafe Vibes
Taking over Shelter Brewing in the downtown core from morning to lunch, Out of Order Coffee is a progressive café pushing the boundaries of traditional coffee service.
They feature a nice patio and operate strictly on a living wage model, meaning there is no tipping required, and they amazingly don’t charge extra for alternative milks!
While you’ll find the classic cafe drinks, look out for the seasonal drink rotations menu like carrot cake latte, strawberry ginger matcha, and key lime pie matcha.
What the locals say: Highly recommended by locals for “really fun drink options on their rotating menu, and they make a great matcha.”
What I tried: I had the Brown Butter Miso Latte from their seasonal rotation, with a balance of savory and sweet notes.

Christies Il Secondo: Historic Bakery and Cafe
Located in the Nutana neighborhood, Christies Il Secondo is steeped in rich local history. The original Christies Bakery first opened its doors on 33rd Street back in 1932 by the Christie brothers, before being purchased by Ennio and Janet Muzzolini in 1966.
In the early 2000s, siblings Tracey and Blair Muzzolini returned to take over the family business, expanding it to open this “Il Secondo” (the second) location, which proudly introduced Saskatoon’s first wood-fired Neapolitan style pizza.
Operating as a full-blown café with cool vintage mirrors hanging inside, it’s a local favourite that there were already people waiting outside for it to open when we arrived.
What the locals say: A local favourite cafe or for baked goods, with one Redditor noting, “Great sandwiches but their baked goods are some of the best. I always go for a Sweet or Savoury Scone and a box of all their cookie flavours.”
What I tried: A staple for morning pastries and breakfast sandwiches, I paired a Cortado with their Breakfast Croissant. With a sous vide egg, arugula, and chili lemon aioli, I added pancetta to make it a deliciously hearty breakfast sandwich before my flight.

Local Saskatoon Bars, Breweries & Sweet Treats
No culinary tour is complete without some local brews, a slice of pizza, and dessert.
Better Brother Brewing: Local Craft Beer
A staple in the local Saskatoon bars and craft beer scene, Better Brother Brewing is a perfect spot for summer sipping. Located in the city’s North Industrial area, it features a great outdoor patio and an open concept where you can actually see the brewing setup.
What the locals say: A brewery favourite among locals, with recommendations including their kettle lime sour and a limited edition haskap collaboration with Black Fox Distrillery.
What I tried: I love when businesses collaborate. I tried the Sour Grapes (6.3% ABV). It’s a wine barrel kettle sour aged in oak from the local Selkuth Winery, resulting in a tart, refreshing beer with subtle notes of oak and fruit.

Happy Hi Bakery: Fluffy Yeast Donuts
For sweets, Happy Hi Bakery is a minimalist spot in the Broadway district specializing on yeast-based donuts that are unbelievably light, airy, and fluffy.
Operating as a simple takeout bakery with just a bench outside, they sell out fast since they make them fresh in small batches so arrive early.
What the locals say: A recommended spot for donuts with one highlighting their caramel apple fritter and haskap lemonade donut.
What I tried: The Caramel Apple Fritter and the highly popular Butter Toast Donut, which was topped with brown butter croissant crumbs and so good with the perfect balance of dough and sweetness.

Fable Ice Cream: Small-Batch Parlor
For cold treats, Fable Ice Cream is a fantastic parlor offering small-batch, from-scratch ice cream made with organic milk and local produce.
Unlike many seasonal ice cream stands, this Riversdale spot has plenty of indoor seating and operates almost like a café, selling espresso, matcha, and milkshakes.
What the locals say: A local favourite for ice cream especially for trying unique flavours.
What I tried: I wanted to try one flavour from each of the “Always Flavours” and ” Sometimes Flavours” so I got two scoops on one of their fresh, in-house made waffle cones (made every morning).
When I asked the staff what’s the most popular in the standard flavours, I was told it was sour cherry cheesecake and cookie dough. I got the Sour Cherry Cheesecake which had a perfect savory/tart/sweet balance.
I also tried the Root Beer Float flavor from their seasonal list, which tasted exactly like the classic diner drink.

Paradox Pizzeria & Brewery: Detroit-Style Pies & Small-Batch Beer
Celebrated their 1-year anniversary during my trip, Paradox is a must-visit for pizza lovers. It features a moody, cozy, and intimate vibe with bar seating inside and a great patio outside in the city’s Broadway district, operating uniquely as both a pizzeria and a small-batch brewery.
What the locals say: It is constantly brought up on Reddit when locals debate the best pizza in the city, and touted as having the best thick crust pizza in the city, including specific recommendations like “Hall with hot honey on the side”, “The McKenna will change your life” and “the Trismegistus is my favourite.”
What I tried: I devoured their Detroit-Style Pizzas, specifically the Trismegistus loaded with pepperoni, prosciutto, and Italian sausage, and the McKenna, featuring roasted garlic and three cheeses.
The thick, chewy, airy dough with crispy caramelized cheese edges was perfect, especially when paired with their hot honey dip for amazing flavour contrast. As a meat lover, I definitely preferred the Trismegistus.
I paired the meal with the Paradox Into the Aether Irish Red Ale, which was served from a Nitro tap, making it incredibly creamy and smooth. It was my first time having beer from a Nitro tap. Highly recommend trying!

Where to Stay: Delta Hotels Saskatoon Downtown
To conquer all these Saskatoon local restaurants, you need a great home base. I checked-in at the Delta Hotels Saskatoon Downtown, which is strategically located in the Central Business District right by the river.
Originally built and opened in 1983 as the Ramada Renaissance Hotel, this towering Marriott property sits directly adjacent to the Meewasin Trail.
I stayed at a 1 Queen Guest Room with a River View, and I was enjoyed the modern, spacious room that offered beautiful, water views including the Delta Hotels Bessborough.
The amenities are fantastic for travelers, featuring a 24-hour gym, an indoor pool, a jacuzzi, and a 3-story waterslide that is perfect for families.
Because the property sits right by the water, my absolute favorite daily post-dinner ritual was taking an evening stroll through the riverfront park system after a day of eating and relax before bed.
