Michelin Guide Restaurants and Hotels Around The World (With Video)

Love dining at Michelin Guide restaurants and hotels when you travel? In this guide, we feature places to eat and stay around the world that’s Michelin recognized (some with videos).

The Michelin Tire founders, French industrialists André and Édouard Michelin, compiled the first Michelin Guide in 1900 to create a demand for automobiles—and thus, more Michelin tires.

Since its expansion across Europe in 1911, the Michelin Guide has continuously broadened its reach, now covering 43 countries across Europe, Asia, North America, and South America.

As a travelling foodie and someone who travels far and wide to try Michelin Guide restaurants, I always enjoy these culinary experiences, some of which are unlike any other you’ll experience.

In fact, my life changing meal was a 3 Michelin Star restaurant.

Michelin dining has become a category on its own in the gastronomy world because of its unique concepts and immersive storytelling, and it’s always interesting to compare how different destinations and restaurants fare in comparison.

What does the MICHELIN Star rating mean?

The most coveted achievement for a restaurant is the Michelin Star!

The Michelin Star rating is a 3-star rating system awarded to restaurants based on anonymous dining experiences by the Michelin inspectors:

  • One Michelin Star: High quality cooking, worth a stop!
  • Two Michelin Stars: Excellent cooking, worth a detour!
  • Three Michelin Stars: Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey!

The restaurants are judged by these five criteria:

  • Quality of the ingredients used
  • Mastery of flavor and cooking techniques
  • Personality of the chef in his cuisine
  • Harmony of flavors
  • Consistency between visits

What about Michelin Green Star, Bib Gourmand and Recommended (Selected)?

  • Green Stars: Awarded to restaurants in recognition for their leadership in sustainable gastronomy.
  • Bib Gourmand: Great food at reasonable prices. The pricing criteria differs based on the destination’s currency value.
  • Recommended / Selected: Sign of a chef using quality ingredients that are well cooked; simply a good meal.

Did you know? Any restaurant in the Michelin Guide, whether Star, Bib Gourmand or Recommended, can move up or down from their current designation, including being removed from the Guide.

This happens concurrently with the annual Michelin Guide Ceremony. 

Many people seek delicious places to eat, especially when traveling, but some countries have more Michelin star restaurants than others. France tops the list with 632 Michelin-starred restaurants.

Of these, 74 have earned at least two stars, and 29 have achieved the prestigious three-star rating. Three Michelin stars are the highest a restaurant can receive, requiring tremendous effort and excellence.

Michelin Guide Restaurants Worldwide, from Recommended to Stars

There are approximately 2,500 restaurants worldwide with one Michelin star, 500 with two stars, and around 150 with three stars. These numbers evolve annually with the release of the Michelin Guide in various regions.

From Michelin Recommended and Bib Gourmand to Green Star and Starred, here are all the restaurants in the Michelin Guide worldwide that we've visited.

Canada

Michelin Guide in Canada covers Toronto & Region, Vancouver and Quebec Province (including Montreal, Quebec City, The Laurentians, and Eastern Townships)

Aside from the sections below for Canada, I've dined at the following Michelin Guide restaurants in Montreal:

  • Au Pied de Cochon (Recommended)
  • Schwartz's Deli (Recommended)

Greece

Michelin Guide in Greece covers Athens.

Ireland

Michelin Guide in Ireland covers both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, including Dublin, Belfast, Galway, Co Cork, Kilkenny and more.

Japan

Michelin Guide in Japan covers multiple cities and prefectures including Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kobe, etc.

    Italy

    The Michelin Guide covers all of Italy, featuring top dining cities like Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, and Modena, along with renowned regions like Tuscany, Piedmont, Campania, and Sicily. Milan & Rome consistently have the highest concentration of Michelin Stars.

    Macau

    Michelin Guide in Macau covers the entire region. I visited the following restaurants back in 2010:

    • Robuchon a Galera [now called Robuchon au Dôme] (3 Michelin Stars)
    • Antonio (Recommended)

    Netherlands

    Michelin Guide in Netherlands covers the entire country including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Sluis.

    • Oud Sluis - I dined at this 3 Michelin Star restaurant in 2012 when they were No. 21 in the World's 50 Best Restaurants.

    Philippines

    The MICHELIN Guide Manila and Environs & Cebu 2026 launched in Oct 30, 2025.

    Singapore

    Michelin Guide in Singapore covers the entire country.

    Spain

    Michelin Guide in Spain covers the entire country including Catalonia, Basque Country, the Communities of Valencia and Madrid.

    • El Celler de can Roca - In 2012, I dined at this 3 Michelin Star Modern Spanish restaurant when they were No. 2 in World's 50 Best Restaurants.

    Turkiye

    Michelin Guide in Turkey covers Istanbul, Izmir and Bodrum.

    United Arab Emirates

    Michelin Guide in UAE covers Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

    USA

    Michelin Guide in the United States of America covers Atlanta, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, California, Miami/Orlando/Tampa (Florida), Colorado and Texas.

    California

    Michelin Guide California covers the entire state instead of individual cities.

    Chicago

    Michelin Guide in Chicago covers the entire city.

    • Alinea - In 2008, I dined at this 3 Michelin Star Molecular Gastronomy Restaurant when they were No. 21 in World's 50 Best Restaurants. Alinea has a soft spot in my heart... mouth and stomach.

      It was my very first Michelin Star restaurant and was my life changing meal that expanded my mind and palate to what culinary can be.

    Fort Worth-Dallas, Texas

    Michelin Keys – Your Guide to Hotels

    While you can easily book your own accommodations, Michelin also has a guide for Hotels and started MICHELIN Key for Hotels in 2024 with a 3-Key rating similar to the Michelin Star system:

    • One Key: A very special stay
      A true gem with personality. Service always goes the extra mile, and the hotel provides much more than others in its price range.
    • Two Keys: An exceptional stay
      A hotel that’s unique in every way, where a memorable experience is always a guarantee. A hotel of character and charm, run with obvious pride and considerable care.
    • Three Keys: An extraordinary stay
      The ultimate in comfort and service, style and elegance. It is one of the world’s most remarkable and extraordinary stays and a destination for the trip of a lifetime.

    The hotels are judged by these five criteria:

    • Excellence in architecture and interior design
    • Quality and consistency of service
    • Overall personality and character
    • Value for the price
    • A significant contribution to the neighborhood or setting
